Teeth sensitivity

Tooth Sensitivity

Our Lone Tree Colorado dentists have "many patients with some degree of tooth sensitivity some time in their life. This tooth sensitivity ranges from mild... moderate and in very rare cases... severe. How it is treated obviously depends up the severity of the symptoms including but not limited to no treatment to dental filling to possible gum therapy. Our Lone Tree Dentist also serve dental patients in the Denver, Castle Pines, Parker, Ken Caryl, Highlands Ranch, Greenwood Village and Centennial Colorado area.

What causes tooth sensitivity?

There are many different dental and non-dental diseases/issues that cause tooth sensitivity. In this article we will be discussing dentin sensitivity. However is should be noted that severely decayed teeth etc. should have immediate attention by your dentist. We would rather have you evaluated by a dentist sooner than later.

Types of Professionally applied dentin desensitizers

In a very general sense dentin desensitizers are broken down into products that either lower nerve sensitivity or cause tubule occlusion with our without protein precipitation. What this means in a non-scientific terminology is these products block the stimulus from reaching the nerve of the tooth.

Potassium Oxylate

Potassium oxylate is considered to work by blocking the tubules in the dentin of the tooth making the tooth less sensitive. Sensodyne sealant is one of a handful of products that accomplishes this task

Potassioun Nitrate

Potasium Nitrate is the second densitizers whose mechanism of action is lowering nerve sensitivity. Regular Sensodyne is a good example of the many different products available.
