Baby tooth decay

Our Lone Tree Dentists received from Delta Dental information on their initiative for the Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation that I would like you to know. This program is in its third year and has increased awareness of expectant mothers from 26% to 69% on how dental issue can affect their baby.

Can you give you baby tooth decay?

Unfortunately yes. If you have cavity causing bacteria in your mouth mother and fathers can easily pass those to you baby. Sharing spoons or pacifier are some of the modes of transmission.
You should see your dentist regularly and maintain great home care for your children

Lone Tree dentist recommends the following:

  • Wipe you baby's gums with a washcloth several time a day

  • When teeth begins to show use a child's tooth brush to remove plaque

  • Check to see if you see staining on the surfaces of the teeth. These areas"could" be cavities or starting cavities.

  • Do not give your baby sugar water or juice at night to fall asleep with. Baby bottle decay can be devastating.

  • Consider having your child's first dental visit at one year old

  • You need to take care of your mouth also so schedule and exam regularly
