Dental Veneers and Orthodontics (303) 694-9740
Dental Veneers ... Orthodontics... and Cosmetic Dentistry
Questions have arisen on which is better dental veneers or orthodontics? The questions has no simple answer and it varies from patient to patient. If the teeth are shaped very well and the color is great then orthodontics is most indicated. However... if the teeth are misshaped and the color is off... then dental veneers my be the preferred treatment. Straight ugly teeth are just that... straight ugly teeth. Lone Tree Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide general and cosmetic dental services to patients in the Lone Tree area of Colorado.
Combining Orthodontics and Dental Veneers
There are certain times where a combination of both orthodontics and Dental veneers are in order. Cosmetic dentistry involves at times the use of several different modalities to treat each case. These tend to be complex cases that can take time but the outcome is worth it. In most instances the teeth are moved into their "ideal" position and then dental veneers are fabricated. As an example teeth stained by tetracycline can be very gray or brown in color. Teeth whitening or bleaching may or may not help. Dental veneers may be the best alternative.

Tongue bacteria Lone Tee dentist
Tongue Bacteria
Tongue bacteria can complicate oral health is so many different ways. Our Lone Tree Dentist feels the tongue is like a sponge that allows millions of bacteria to hide in. Like a sponge your tongue needs to be cleaned daily in order to reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth.
Your mouth is not sterile
Your mouth is not meant to be devoid of bacteria. Like Goldilocks and the three bears you don't want too much or too little... just the right amount of bacteria. If your mouth is devoid of sufficient bacteria yeast infections (thrush) can occur. Oral mouth infections "may" be caused by the long term use of antibiotics that rid the mouth of sufficient quantities of bacterial.
Too much bacteria
The same can be said for too much bacteria in the mouth. Abnormally high levels of bacteria in your mouth can contribute to dental cavities as well as periodontal disease. In addition, there is growing evidence that overall health of individuals can be improved by good oral hygiene. Stroke and heart problems "may" be linked to high levels of bacterial in your mouth.
Mechanical and Chemical removal of bacteria
Mechanical removal of bacterial is the basis of home care. This would include brushing and flossing. In addition to brushing your tongue ...you may wish to employ a tongue scraper to remove plaque and bacteria from your tongue. A tongue scraper typically is a bendable plastic "comb" like appliance that can remove bacteria effectively.
Chemical removal can occur in many different forms and include some prescription and over the counter medications. These include but are not limited to:
- Listerine
- Cloysis
- Peridex
- Fluoride rinses
- Any mouthwash
- frequent rinsing with water
- Solutions of bicarbonate (baking soda)
- others...

Dental implants Lone Tree dentist
Dental implants
Lone Tree dentist Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide dental implant services for a variety of dental situations. Dental implants can be used for a variety of situations including but not limited to:- Replacing a single tooth
- Replacing several teeth
- To act a a bridge and span an area in which several teeth are missing
- Dental implants can replace "all" (or nearly all) your teeth in patients who have dentures
- Dental implants can act as anchor for a lower denture. It "helps" retention especially for lower dentures
Single tooth replacement is a common dental procedure that our Lone Tree dentist offer. This is especially valuable if teeth on either side of the space have no dental filling or dental crowns. A fixed dental bridge require our Lone Tree dentist to crown teeth on either side of the space. If the teeth on either side of the space have large dental filling a dental bridge may be your best choice. If the teeth are "virgin" on either side of the teeth a dental implant may be a better choice.

Teeth Whitening Lone Tree Colorado (303) 694-9740
A laser is "not" used to whiten teeth Lone Tree Colorado Dentist
There has been some sloppy terminology in regards to whitening. Some have incorrectly termed this light activated whitening as Laser Whitening. The first things to review on Laser tooth whitening is the light is NOT a laser.
Luma whitening and other systems use bright lights not lasers
This light has a specific... very bright wave lengths but technically is not a laser. Make no mistake about it the light like a laser emits wavelengths of light that can damage your eyes. Please use protective eye wear when near either. Lone Tree Colorado Dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide cosmetic dental services for their patients in Denver, Castle Pines Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Parker, Greenwood Village, and Centennial Colorado.

Staining begins early in life
Most of us begin life with white teeth and over time foods in your diet or...drink or... smoking stain and discolor your teeth. In time your teeth can appear yellow...gray... or brown in color.
There are many techniques to bleach or whiten your teeth
There are several techniques used to whiten or bleach teeth. In reality... most are effective to varying degrees. The bottom line to bleaching is ...the time the bleach is on the tooth and how concentrated the solution is. The more concentrated the solution... the less time needed to be on the tooth. Low concentrations found in over- the- counter products need much more time. In our Lone Tree Colorado dentist opinion.. bleaching or whitening toothpastes are for the most part ineffective. The techniques use include but are not limited to:
- One hour -two hour bleaching technique (Luma etc.)
- Custom dental tray fabricated in our Lone Tree Dental office
- Universal fit dental trays
- Whitening strips over -the -counter
Combining tooth whitening technique for difficult to whiten teeth
Our Lone Tree dentist has found in difficult to whiten or bleach teeth that several techniques may need to be combined to whiten your teeth. Colors with gray hues or tetracycline staining can be very difficult/impossible to whiten to any great degree. Dental veneers may be the only effective solution
Our Highlands Ranch dentist have helped hundreds of patients achieve a white smile everyone desires. Power whitening with Luma (with the bright light) is a quick affordable and reliable technique.

Lone Tree Dentist and Denver Dentist (303) 694-9740
Our Lone Tree Dentist has recently subscribed to Twitter. Twitter is a micro- blog that limits writing to approximately 160 characters or about two sentences. Our team members thought this was great to limit the amount of information that we can write (accused of being boring... dentists from time to time). There are time where we get excited about a topic and writing get long. We hope our patients or those who follow our blog take it for what it is intended to be... up-to-date topics on dentistry.
With what our Lone Tree dentists have written we wish to become a resource of information on a variety of dental topics. That in part is why we developed a dental information library on a companion web site. Their office has tried to write articles about questions their dental patients actually ask them (what is Invisalign e.g.). They hope this helps you as a resource. If you would like to access this library please click the following link Highlands Ranch dentist and Denver Dentistry. Their dental care library is written by the Dr.'s DeLapp and has taken several years to write. Dentists can purchase "canned" dental care libraries by they feel this approach is more customized. (Google... "dental care library" and you can see the canned information). Some sites information is written by ghost writers. Our Highlands Ranch dentist articles are the real thing (filled with hopefully a "few" typo's).
They would like to thank our patients who have supported them over the years and hope they (we) hope (we) can continue our relationship as your dentist.
